Gete

Description

Gete is situated North of the river Torio, in a sunny valley protected from the north winds which makes the climate milder than the surrounding villages of the area.

Although, due to the fact that the town is situated at a height of 1.140 m, the winter is harsh with some snow falls. The absence of clouds on bright days favours the night frosts. During, summer, spring and autumn temperatures are very agreeable although it does freshen up at night fall.

The river Gete flows through the village where trout can still be found. To the west the valley ends in-between the town of Fontun 1948 m and Salieron 1796 m.

Free time

Gete is situated in an ideal place for enjoying views of the landscape and conversing with the village locals.

Taking a walk behind the Pena situated above the town collecting tea, cranberry and oregano and other plants can be very relaxing. Or strolling along the Heyedo de Getino. You can also try a shot of honey in Casa Amador, or take a bath in the thermal waters of Venta del Getino.

Ther is an infinity of outdoor activities that can be practised in the surrounding areas of Gete. Cycling and walking routes, river fishing, mushroom picking, climbing in the near by climbing schools of Pedrosa, Vegacervera, Aviados… High and medium mountain treks in the cordillera.

In the winter months it is a privileged zone for cross country ski in the surrounding mountais, and alpinesky. Gete is half way between San Isidro and Pajares. Its also very close to ice falls climbing areas like Genicera and Vegarada.

Finally the presence only 4 kms away of the town of cuevas de Valporquero one of the most visited towns of Spain.

Buy and services

In Matallana there are all kinds of services. Cash Points, Petrol Stations, Medical Centre, etc…

But there is no nedd to go far away in Carmenes there is a super market, Gonzalos butchers or the local shops of Vegacervera.

To eat and drink I recommend Casa Amador on the cross roads of Getino and el Pescador en Felmin and Meson La Rinconada en Coladilla, her I strongly recommend the sausages that they sell to the public.

In Coladilla the cheese shop for its yogurts and home made cheeses.
